One of our batchmates had a huge crush on a ward sister recently... guess who he is!

It's Friday today, and I went to renew my passport this morning. Reached the Immigration Office at 0930hrs. There was at most 5 people waiting for their numbers. Went on with the procedure, and was told 20mins later to collect my new passport in two hour's time! I'd always thought Fridays are days that nothing can be get done in the government office!

Ferry terminal @ Minyak Beku

After a light brunch, I went on a lone venture to Pantai Minyak Beku. Saw this Ferry Terminal halfway there, and turned in to look see. Was wondering if the ferry can get us to Singapore in December. Looks like it's built specially to ferry Indonesian maids. The only two destinations posted on the departure board are somewhere in Indonesia.

The ferries are quite nice-looking though.

I then continued my journey to Pantai Minyak Beku. A few kilometres down the trunk road, I saw this signboard that says Rumah Api Bukit Segenting. Looks like a tourist lookout point. I a climbed the small mountain to see what's there at the top.

The road up to Rumah Api Bukit Segenting is very darn bloody steep. The small irregularly tarred road leading up the firehouse is at some stretch more that 45 degree elevation!!! Serious shit, no bluff. I was so darn scared I'd roll backwards down the road!

This is what it looks like at the top

The firehouse (rumah api)

The firehouse seen from a lower elevation

I have a feeling that there are some sorts of secret scientific activity going on in there. Like a base for experimental biological shit, or something like those basements in the Lost drama series. It's so out of place, being built by a Japanese company called Nippon Corp. in 1976 in the middle of Minyak Beku (which looked like a lost town).

Another view from the same place

Pantai Minyak Beku is roughly 1km away from the exit to Rumah Api Bukit Segenting, which is also the end of the one and only trunk road.

Not sure if Pantai Minyak Beku is fit for swimming. The shoreline is not shallow, and waves are quite strong. But it's quite a scenery! The sky was quite cloudy the whole morning, so I spent some time looking at the sea.

Spotted a few eagles flying majestically in the sky. The eagles' wing span from tip to tip is at least ONE METRE, that's how huge the eagles are! They fly in from the sea and head towards the Rumah Api which is visible from the beach, encircling it.

If you look closely, there's actually an eagle capture in the picture above.

The journey from Batu Pahat town to Pantai Minyak Beku is approximately 12km. From the place I'm staying, it's 10-11km. And how did I get there?

By scooting on my Orange Devil! Haha. Quite an enjoyable lone adventure! But tainted by quite a heavy drizzle on the way back home! This made my day! What a way to end Paediatric posting (easily the most stressful of all four postings!). Hahahahaha...

Paediatric posting in BP is about making good impressions to our co-ordinator during his clinical teaching. Other than that, it's all about bronchopneumonia and C.pen!

The day starts at 0730hrs - be in Ward 2 and spend 30minutes saying hello to patients. Then adjourn to the library in Ward 1 for the daily handover at 0800hrs. Handovers typically last about 20-40 mins, all depending on the previous night's case load.

From 0900hrs onwards, we will be in either Ward 1, Ward 2, SCN, or in Clinic 5. Stuff to look forward to is the Journal Club, where we learn about critical review of clinical papers. And of course, the CME a.k.a. Talk Show to Hospital Staffs & Doctors!

Kok Fang delivering his opening speech for CME

Keng Tat working his charm on Wan-Yi talking about febrile neutropaenia in our last CME

Videoconference with Dato Jai is enjoyable, not stressful one. Unlike the clinical teachings with our co-ordinator (for the presenter for that particular session only, the rest can sleep!).

Dato Jai's videoconference

Other than the two compulsory portfolios, Paediatrics in summary is fairly enjoyable, considering the next groups wouldn't have to rush CFCS reports. Look at how Kok Fang enjoy our first posting:

Kok Fang sleeps during Dr. Lai's session

Day in day out, Kok Fang sleeps in class like nobody's business. These short videos are testaments that Paeds is a very enjoyable postings. Do not belief the rumours! Paeds rocks! If don't believe, I present you one more short video of Kok Fang sleeping in class:

See you scared onot...

Howdy!

There haven't been any updates since our moving over to Batu Pahat. Understandably, this new chapter of shit ain't any better than Seremban, with portfolios, nasty CPs, on-calls, adjustment disorders and all. I'll post up my experience in Paeds soon, maybe next week or the week after next. I think Paeds could easily be the most challenging posting among the four. Watch out for my upcoming post to know why.

As a reminder to those who are going to Singapore Stand Chart Marathon coming Dec, do start training. I've discovered a new running route in BP, quite scenic and enjoyable provided weather is good. A lap of the route can easily cover 40mins with moderate running speed. Just did a lap yesterday. Will do a 2-lap soon. Do join me!

The Marathon Equation:
LOW MILEAGE = INJURIES + SUFFERINGS

Today is de Big DAY. I'm pleased to announce that all ASSes are cleared and are ready to move south to Batu Pahat! Congratulations to you all, now when do we get drunk?

Who can guess what lesion this is? Is this pathological or normal? Answers will be provided later.

Looks like we have 2 options here for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Registration (SCSM) - ie. to register online and pay by credit card, or to go straight to Singapore to do so. I'm exploring the third (remote) possibility, that is to get IMU to register all of us but Gabriel will be on leave till Thursday! So here are the steps for online registration, quite a lengthy one:

Step 1: Rules and Regulations

Step 2: Entering your particulars

Step 3: Choosing your race category

Step 4: Secure online payment by credit card
And the last step would bring you to the confirmation page in which your payment details are shown. So macam? Let's register!

LearningRadiology.com also come with specially structured medical student website at http://www.learningradiology.com/medstudents/medstudtoc.htm
enjoy fellow ASS. hope these help in our end of posting radiology and sem 9 OSCE exam.

Having successfully completed our half-marathons, I think it's high time we hit the full one down south come December! No more "a taste of the big stuff", Mr Lau! Let's eat the big stuff!

I think we should decide early, whether or not to participate, as the difference in registration fees could save us some S$30.00 (~RM70). So who's in? Do let me know! I will then discuss with Gabriel on how much IMU is subsidising! Cheers!

From the guy who sang '麻坡的华语' (muar chinese) come his latest song - 'Negarakuku'! Funny! Wonder what will happen another 50 years down the line...

Thanks to Quek's suggestion to sapu the cheaper "durian kampung", we had lots of inedible leftovers after our durian feast last nite. The emotionally restless Ah Tat (he's in a relationship turmoil with his best buddy) decided to do something to cast the evil away! The Durian Bomb way! We, being his real best buddies, of course backed him up after warning him the potential dangers involved in his crazy project...

He first asked if we had any raw materials for the bomb, which someone from the group incidentally had in his keepings a bagful of Yong Peng Firecrackers, depicted in the photo above. Upon knowing the secret stash of mini-explosives, Ah Tat jumped into the air and screamed "YESSSSS!!!".
He quickly asked us to removed the durian pulp from the seeds, and knead the durian pulp into a compact paste to be wrapped around our mini-explosives! We were surprised by his innovative idea!
To do so, we knead and knead and knead the pulp and placed them onto a thin layer of plastic food wrappers.
Then we started to plant the mini-explosives into the heart of the kneaded durian paste. We make it so compact so that when the explosives go off, the durian paste would have a wider area of blast coverage!
We then taped the explosive securely over the food wrapper. And the final product looked like this:
Please take note that this item is not available in any Jusco branches worldwide, and Jusco had nothing to do with durian-bombs. If credits are to be given to anybody, it is Ah Tat from A.S.S.!
Our President, thinking he is helluva great, tried to deviate from Ah Tat's bomb-making recipe and tried his own Klang way. He ended up sending two undetonated bombs into the enemy's fort. Numbskull!
With encouragement from Ah Tat, and some hatred and anger thrown in, we marched out to our battle field with a bomb each!
Mr. Ah Duan wanted to bomb too but he ended up snapping our photos to be commemorated, coz he's too puss to deal with bombs.
And the end result was pretty good. Our first commander Mr. Pang(sai) woke up early in the morning to check for casualties, and he reported the result to be satisfactory!
Apparently, as I'm typing this, I heard the enemies screamed "Wu liao ah, who bomb my panties??! Arrghh, my bra got liu-lian summore! Henn tiaooooo...". Mr Pang can't stop laughing upon hearing their remarks.
The enemy had resorted to shut their jamban windows too! Apparently our President threw his self-made bomb too energetically, the velocity on hitting the wall causes the bomb to not detonate. But the durian kampung paste stucked on the wall, right next to the window opening. Good job there, president!
I can see Ah Tat is already happier today, he's been gloomy and lethargic since last Friday. I've been wondering what'd gone wrong, and nearly offered him a glass of YoMeiShu. Lucky the bombing incident cheered him up!
