Lone Venture to Minyak Beku

It's Friday today, and I went to renew my passport this morning. Reached the Immigration Office at 0930hrs. There was at most 5 people waiting for their numbers. Went on with the procedure, and was told 20mins later to collect my new passport in two hour's time! I'd always thought Fridays are days that nothing can be get done in the government office!

Ferry terminal @ Minyak Beku

After a light brunch, I went on a lone venture to Pantai Minyak Beku. Saw this Ferry Terminal halfway there, and turned in to look see. Was wondering if the ferry can get us to Singapore in December. Looks like it's built specially to ferry Indonesian maids. The only two destinations posted on the departure board are somewhere in Indonesia.

The ferries are quite nice-looking though.

I then continued my journey to Pantai Minyak Beku. A few kilometres down the trunk road, I saw this signboard that says Rumah Api Bukit Segenting. Looks like a tourist lookout point. I a climbed the small mountain to see what's there at the top.

The road up to Rumah Api Bukit Segenting is very darn bloody steep. The small irregularly tarred road leading up the firehouse is at some stretch more that 45 degree elevation!!! Serious shit, no bluff. I was so darn scared I'd roll backwards down the road!

This is what it looks like at the top

The firehouse (rumah api)

I have a feeling that there are some sorts of secret scientific activity going on in there. Like a base for experimental biological shit, or something like those basements in the Lost drama series. It's so out of place, being built by a Japanese company called Nippon Corp. in 1976 in the middle of Minyak Beku (which looked like a lost town).

Pantai Minyak Beku is roughly 1km away from the exit to Rumah Api Bukit Segenting, which is also the end of the one and only trunk road.

Not sure if Pantai Minyak Beku is fit for swimming. The shoreline is not shallow, and waves are quite strong. But it's quite a scenery! The sky was quite cloudy the whole morning, so I spent some time looking at the sea.

Spotted a few eagles flying majestically in the sky. The eagles' wing span from tip to tip is at least ONE METRE, that's how huge the eagles are! They fly in from the sea and head towards the Rumah Api which is visible from the beach, encircling it.

If you look closely, there's actually an eagle capture in the picture above.

The journey from Batu Pahat town to Pantai Minyak Beku is approximately 12km. From the place I'm staying, it's 10-11km. And how did I get there?

By scooting on my Orange Devil! Haha. Quite an enjoyable lone adventure! But tainted by quite a heavy drizzle on the way back home! This made my day! What a way to end Paediatric posting (easily the most stressful of all four postings!). Hahahahaha...
