I wrote in to some small-time officer of the Sabah Tourism Board to enquire and clear up a few things regarding our "The Ultimate A.S.S. Challenge: Mount Kinabalu Climbathon 2006" trip. And here's the reply:

Subject: Inquiries on Mount Kinabalu

Dear Ms/Mdm,
My name is K.K.Lim and I'm an anti-social person. I'm planning to climb Mount Kinabalu coming Nov with 3 of my geek frends in order to obtain divinity and reach the highest order of nirwana for the sake of A.S.S. Since I'm a ruthless person, it is imperative that you answer the following questions with utmost honesty, or risk being hunted down by the ruthless and lack-of-remorse K.K.Lim.
  1. As we are travelling from West M'sia, do we need to do any prior booking to climb Mount Kinabalu prior to our departure? (WTF, u think Mt Kinabalu so damn good la? Cheebye...)
  2. Would Nov-Dec be a good time to climb? Would it be too crowded, or rainy season for instance? (Do I like fucking care if it's monsoon or not? I'm RUTHLESS!!!)
  3. Could you roughly outline the expenses/costs that are expected of us for the climb? Are there any student rates? (Are you crazy? Do I look like I fucking care bout how much it costs???)
I thank fuck you in advance for your time and hope to hear from you fuck you again soon!
Regards,
K.K.Lim
A.S.S. Ex-President (some say I'm still!)

Dear K.K. Lim,
Thank you for your e-mail. Am pleased that you are interested to conquer the Summit of Borneo, Mt. Kinabalu, at the end of the year.
1) Everyone that wants to climb still need to do prior booking.
2) Being the Monsoon season, it may rain more but climb still continues unless weather is really bad and not safe for climbers.
3) For best rates, I would recommends you contact Suniland Travel (enquiries@sunilandtravel.com.my or faizul@sunilandtravel.com.my) since they do backpackers package and the most affordable in town. They can also secure the accommodation for you together with transport from KK city.
All the best and good luck.
sincerely,
